چکیده

Four turbulence models are described and evaluated for transonic flows using the upwind code CFL3D and the central-difference code TLNS3D. In particular, the effects of recent modifications to the half-equation model of Johnson-King are explored in detail, and different versions of the model are compared. This model can obtain good results for both two-dimensional (2–D) and three-dimensional (3–D) separated flows. The one-equation models of Baldwin-Barth and Spalart-Allmaras perform well for separated airfoil flows, but can predict the shock too far forward at the outboard stations of a separated wing. The equilibrium model of Baldwin-Lomax predicts the shock location too far aft for both 2–D and 3–D separated flows, as expected. In general, all models perform well for attached or mildly separated flows.

The comparison of two high-order semi-discrete central schemes for solving hyperbolic conservation laws

This work presents two high-order, semi-discrete, central-upwind schemes for computing approximate solutions of 1D systems of conservation laws. We propose a central weighted essentially non-oscillatory (CWENO) reconstruction, also we apply a fourth-order reconstruction proposed by Peer et al., and afterwards, we combine these reconstructions with a semi-discrete central-upwind numerical flux ...

Internal combustion engines in cylinder flow simulation improvement using nonlinear k-ε turbulence models

The purpose of this paper is to studying nonlinear k-ε turbulence models and its advantages in internal combustion engines, since the standard k-ε model is incapable of representing the anisotropy of turbulence intensities and fails to express the Reynolds stresses adequately in rotating flows. Therefore, this model is not only incapable of expressing the anisotropy of turbulence in an engine c...

Flow Field Characteristics of an Aerospike Nozzle Using Different Turbulence Models

To improve the calculation of the flow properties of an aerospike nozzle, different turbulence models were investigated in this study. The primary shape of the nozzle plug is determined through utilizing an approximate method. The flow field is, then, simulated using the Navier-Stokes equations for compressible flows. The commercial computational fluid dynamics code Fluent is used to simulate t...

Large-eddy simulation of turbulent flow over an array of wall-mounted cubes submerged in an emulated atmospheric boundary-layer

Turbulent flow over an array of wall-mounted cubic obstacles has been numerically investigated using large-eddy simulation. The simulations have been performed using high-performance computations with local cluster systems. The array of cubes are fully submerged in a simulated deep rough-wall atmospheric boundary-layer with high turbulence intensity characteristics of environmental turbulent fl...

Presumed PDF Modeling of Reactive Oxy-Fuel Flow in a Model Combustor

A non-premixed coaxial oxy-fuel turbulent flame was studied numerically with standard and realizable k-ε turbulence model and a comparison was made between them. The governing equations were solved by finite volume approach and were discretized using the second order upwind scheme. The presumed β-PDF model was applied to model turbulence-combustion interaction. The discrete ordinate radiation h...
